Timelines
Used to filter dates and presents it in an interactive format; another alternative to presenting them as slicers
Note: Timelines are only available in Excel 2010 or above.
Example
I'm going to create a timeline using my "Crime Statistics" data, to show the 'Date of Offence'.
To insert a timeline:
Click anywhere in the PivotTable > ANALYZE tab > under “Filter” select “Insert Timeline” > select which field(s) you would like the timeline to reflect. Excel will show you which field(s) are available to create a timeline.

In the above image, I can see that 1,853 offences were committed from Jan - June 2016. I can also click on “Months” in the timeline to filter it my year, quarter, etc.
Once again, I can go to “Report Connections” to select additional Pivot Tables to enable my timeline to control more than one.
