How to remove table functionality

Have you created a table and then later decided that you no longer want the “table functionality”?

What do you do? One's first instinct would be to copy the table and paste the values somewhere else.

Good news!! You can keep the table design but remove the functionality by converting the table to a range.

Example

I currently have my Crime Data in a table. For some reason, I want to remove the table formatting.

STEP 1

Click on the table. You’ll know that you’ve clicked on the table when the DESIGN (Table Tools) tab appears.

STEP 2

Click the DESIGN tab > Under “Tools” click “Convert to Range”.

STEP 3

A message will pop up saying:

Click "Yes".

The table has been converted to range. How do I know? The arrows in the column headers have disappeared and when I click a cell that used to be part of a table, the DESIGN tab doesn’t show up.

To remove the table formatting after converting to range:

  • Highlight data > Click the HOME tab > Under “Editing” click “Clear” > Select “Clear Formats”
